It's been said before but is worth saying again: if you have children, if your children like music, and if your cd player works, you really should start a collection of Jamie Soles' music--now available from Brightrock Press.
Despite his bouncy, kid-friendly sound, Mr. Soles' candid storytelling, his dry (dare we say it? Canadian?) sense of humor, and the way he pairs his words and music seem to result in three things per album. One, music kids will love. If they're your kids, you will like how sweetly they slide out of their post-nap crankiness as they listen; at our house it's almost instantaneous. Two, on every album at least one song that, as soon as you pay attention to the words, sends shivers down your spine. My personal nominee for this category from our newest album, Fun and Prophets, is "Run, Prophet, Run," although the song about the forty-two youths who got mauled by bears while razzing a prophet is certainly a close second. Three, on every album at least one song that can make Mommy cry when she's feeling hormonal. Really, try it. We promise you'll like it.
