Moscow, Idaho Shootings
If you keep up with the news you probably noticed that there was a tragic crime committed in Moscow this weekend. We actually heard the gunshots, as many in Moscow did. In fact some of our friends were married in the Presbyterian church earlier that very day. Perhaps you remember the pictures of my friend Jamin's wedding I posted earlier this year. That wedding was in the First Presbyterian Church as well. Here's a link to a some of those pictures including one of the church at the bottom.
Another friend of ours was one of the dispatchers in the office when it was attacked. She knew officer Newbill (the Police officer who was killed) and says that he was a fine Christian man. Please pray for his family and all the families and friends of the victims. We believe God works for good even tragedy like this. We know that God brings life out of death-- even untimely, tragic and undeserved death--trusting we look to you, Lord. Hear our prayer.

Not a funny conversation particularly, but...
Some of the Grands may like it as a sort of marker of progress.
For about two or three months Peter has been reading the Little House series aloud to us. I remember pieces of it from years ago, but not much--and incidentally, what a fun read. Much better than the TV series. Anyway, today Inge mentioned that she would like to visit one of Mary and Laura's houses. Especially, she said, the house on Silver Lake.
Me: Why that one?
Inge, smiling reminiscently: Oh, just because. It sounded so pretty, with the roses and the fairy ring...
Me (and I have never been noted for my memory): Oh. I thought that one was at Plum Creek. Because that was the time Grace got lost, wasn't it?
Inge: But don't you remember? Ma and Pa were fighting their way through the slough grass that day.
This was a clincher, because the slough grass was on Silver Lake, as we both knew. Inge was right. And I thought that was pretty good, because it meant she was recalling a minor detail from about three books ago. Just then Nelly piped up:
I make a mee! (a "B")
Inge, inspecting the paper: Yes, she did. (And then, amused:) It's a "B" with a long tail.
Nelly brought me the paper, and she was able to point out a very nice, albeit backwards, "B" with, yes, a longish tail. Not bad for two.

Imponderable
A little while ago, while Nelly was sitting on the toilet, Inge kindly brought her a fortune cookie left over from last night's takeout. (The big sister motto: "Thoughtful Service 24/7--Startlement, Innovation, and Impracticality yours at no extra cost.")
So anyway, the little slip of paper read: "Great fortune is coming your way." But the cookie fell in the toilet.

Mona Speaks
Our little Mona likes to talk. She's quite a conversationalist. Her other main passion is well illustrated at the end of the video. Her mom is very busy these days and takes good care of us all.
Hooray for Mommy!
Hooray for Mommy!
Nelly
Nelly is a big sister.
Who takes care of Little Mona, and talks to her.
She's a corncob!
And she's a little sister who looks up to her big sister Inge.

And as Grammy noted in an email--she is quite the photographer-- she was the only one missing last week. Conclusion: she must have been behind the camera. :)

Classic Moments
Lewis, about our brother-in-law, recently deployed: Why is Uncle Josiah under a rock?
Lewis again, after a conversation about Jesus' crucifixion: It wasn't fair for the Fairies to kill Jesus!
Inge, on the twelve disciples: "Was that Judas the Scariest?"
And last, though never least: When Nelly goes potty, she "twinkle-twinkles." Imagine the arch expression, the dazzling smile, and the running commentary: "twinkle-twinkle!"
