Moscow Christmas

As usual we had a few Christmas celebrations this year. One at home to open our Moscow presents and then one with the Washington branch of the family. Here are a few photos from our Moscow Christmas. I kinda forgot to take pictures of it, so pardon the missing parts of the story.

A photo taken with my new pocket camera.

Tuppence was pretty sure the beta fish was for her.

Nelly was very glad that this was her ornament.

The most wonderful time of the year

Inge could actually hang ornaments more than half-way up our tree.

Pleasant to the eyes and good for food...

Cousin Jer-a-miah

Jer-a-miah, speaks often of himself in the third person. He is also very meticulous in pronouncing each syllable he speaks separately.

His conversation ranges from discussions about "Jer-a-miah's Air-plane" to "Jer-a-miah's home" to "Jer-a-miah's dad."
When I picked them up at the airport he was ready. With a little prompt from Mom he said, "Hi, Unc-le Pe-ter."

Croup, Broken Arm, Car Accident

We had an exciting last couple of weeks.

And, due to public outcry, let me explain. Andrew and Jak and Lewis and I went for a drive last Saturday on snowy roads. The scenery was lovely, but the pickup truck coming at us was not going to be able to get back into her lane before we converged... Andrew, with jungle-cat reflexes, drove into the ditch, out into a field, and then back onto the road again. Main casualty--the bottom of his rental car. Lewis asked "Dad, why did they put those bumps in the road?" I explained that was not the road but that we had gone through a ditch, into, and then out of the field. About 45 min later and after some more driving, Lewis asked-- "Dad, are we still in the ditch?" Good old clueless strikes again. Oh well, we were all safe, Praise the Lord. But it did feel a little like disaster was lurking.

Nelly fell out of the top bunk-bed (now off-limits) and got a nasty bump on the head and also this broken arm. We were glad it wasn't any worse than it was.

And, of course, the croup is old news, but let me tell you--you really haven't lived until you've traveled 6 and a half hours in a car with croupy, sick, and crabby children. Whew... next time we plan to travel and sickness strikes we will hit the mission abort button.

Cousins Part 2

This is my lovely niece, Simone. She is a pretty sweet baby... and, as Andrew would say: "She feels good, Maawm."

Jak and Lewis playing helicopters--I'm afraid my kids weren't perfect cousins, but, hey, we're new at this, give us some time. Jak seemed to be able to take it in stride.

Jak was definitely watching Lewis to know what to do.

I think these photos show that.

Also, I got some very nice hugs from Jak. I like being called "Uncle Peter" too.

Ah, what a sweetie!

The best personality shot. We wonder if this was a fluke, or if we'll see this develop as she gets older. Either way we're looking forward to it.
